livingstonbirds.com is the collaborative effort of several bird watchers who live and/or bird in Livingston County. This web site is informational in nature. The purpose is to briefly document some of the notable records from past years, present a working checklist of the birds that have been observed in the County and list some of the better locations to bird watch in Livingston County. The developers of this web site come from a variety of backgrounds, none of which include Web Design. About Livingston County, Michigan

Livingston County has a unique variety of habitats ranging from farmland in the north, many inland lakes in the central and south section of the county and part of the Huron River basin in the south. The I-96 corridor has the highest population concentration in the county with Brighton and Howell being the largest cities.

RECENT HIGHLIGHTS

Mississippi Kite
Observed along Chilson road between Caroga Lake and Winans lake on April 13, 2008. The bird was last observed flying north, over the Brighton State Recreation Area.

Red-throated Loon
This bird was originally discovered on Portage Lake in Washtenaw County on April 2nd, 2007. The bird eventually made its way into the Livingston County portion of Portage Lake.

Little Blue Heron
An immature (white) bird was discovered on August 16, 2006 in a retention pond on the south side of M-36 just west of Howlett road.

Chuck-wills-widow
This bird was heard calling on May 4, 2006 during a morning point count on private land. The observation was substantiated by a second observer around dusk, but subsequent attempts to locate the bird later that evening and in the following days were unsuccessful.
